Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) CEO Ezekiel Mutua has advised President William Ruto to employ communication experts in all the government agencies, departments, and ministries.
Mutua explained that the government needs to review its communication strategy and appoint professionals in that sector.
The CEO said this will reduce the spread of fake news and reduce the challenges government is facing in disseminating information and engaging the media.
“If this government doesn’t rethink its communication strategy and involve communication professionals in its programs it will have a lot of challenges,” Mutua said.
“Communication is at the centre of any policy formulation and implementation and in the era of digital media there’s bound to be a lot of misinformation.”
He maintained that serious governments value proper communication and mainstream communication strategies in their agenda.
According to Mutua, the move will help to empower public relations officers and communication experts in Ministries to manage dissemination of information.
Appoint Communication Experts & Lawyers
In another statement on April 12, Mutua said popular figures in both public and private sectors need a communication advisor and a lawyer especially in times of crisis.
He called for respecting these two groups of people and following their guidance even if they are lawyers or communication experts themselves.
“These are the people to keep close. And when dealing with them, please drop your ego and listen to professional advice. Swallow your pride and surrender to their guidance even if you are a lawyer or communication professional yourself,” he said.

Ezekiel Mutua Takeaways from Linturi’s TV Interview
Mutua hugely criticized the advisors of Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi after his interview on Citizen TV.
He explained that Linturi’s should have ensured that the CS will debate alone without the interference from a third party.
“From a technical point of view, I would not have allowed him (Linturi) to show up for that interview without thorough briefing. When the top man in an organization has to appear, he should look appealing, calm and prepared,” he said in a tweet.

According to Mutua, the advisors should have some prior agreements with any media house before a state officer appears on TV to avoid embarrassments.
“When the matter is controversial and heated, let junior people and experts deal with the media. Only come in as an authority when you have all the facts, and you are well prepared. Don’t jump into a raging debate where facts are likely to change or new information emerge,” he said.
Mutua said the agreement should also include an assurance that the state officer is appearing to give the Government position not for verbal exchanges.
