Farmers across Kenya can now access government-subsidized fertilizer at Ksh2,500 per 50-kg bag, with the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) serving as the primary distributor.
To qualify for the program, a farmer must be duly registered with their details appearing in the register provided to the board.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, registration is free and can be done at county, sub-county, or ward agricultural offices.
Alternatively, farmers can register through the e-voucher system by dialing *616*3# on their mobile phones, where they provide details of land size and fertilizer requirements.
Once verified, an e-voucher code is issued and redeemed at NCPB depots or partnering outlets such as cooperatives and agro-vet stores.

Fertilizer Bags Allocation and Payment
Each registered farmer is entitled to a maximum of 100 bags of fertilizer for both planting and top-dressing purposes per season, depending on the registered acreage of land prepared for planting.
The allocation is calculated at two bags of planting and two bags of top-dressing fertilizer per acre.
For instance, a farmer with three acres can purchase up to 12 bags, while those with 25 acres or more qualify for 100 bags.
Payments must be made before collection. Farmers can pay via M-Pesa using the NCPB till number displayed at depots or through bank deposits to accounts provided by depot managers.
Cooperative societies are required to make direct payments from their official bank accounts. Cash transactions are not accepted, and resale of subsidized fertilizer is prohibited.

Depots operate Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., providing farmers with flexibility to purchase within the allowed limits throughout the planting season.
Farmers are also free to buy fertilizer in phases, provided they do not exceed their acreage allocation.
One cannot purchase the fertilizer on credit; he/she are required to make payment before collection.
Agriculture officers conduct farm inspections to verify acreage and fertilizer requirements, a measure aimed at preventing misuse of the subsidy.
The program is anchored in the Kenya Integrated Agriculture Management Information System (KIAMIS), which links farmers’ data to promote transparency and accountability.
Officials emphasize that the initiative is designed to shield farmers from rising input costs while enhancing food security.
