A family in Namawanga area in Kitale town, Trans Nzoia county woke up on Thursday, June 9 to a dejected mood after the unexpected death of their high school girl.
The 19-year old form four student from St Augustines Bidii High school was found hanging from the roof of their house at dawn, in what is suspected to be suicide.
According to her sister, the deceased was preparing to sit for her KCSE exams late this year, and had not shown any signs of agony or that she was planning suicide. She further explained that, they were aware she had some small issues with school but did not anticipate it would go that far.
She also reported that the deceased who was a jovial teen, and one that interacted well with her siblings left behind a suicide note written ‘”nimechoka na maisha na leo ndio siku yangu ya mwisho”.
Furthermore, locals who were also shocked by the untimely death of the young girls led by a church elder urged youths to always ask for help when facing life challenges.
“Our youths are undergoing various challenges in life, and we need to treat this with urgency. I urge the Ministry of Education to ensure that every school has at least a counselor,” said Gitau the church elder.
DCI officers from Kitale have launched investigations into the death. The body was moved to Kitale Hospital county morgue for postmortem examination.
