Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua launched a campaign on October 3 to counter his impending impeachment, ahead of public participation events scheduled for Friday, October 4.

In a video shared widely by his allies, Gachagua earnestly appealed to members of the public to come to his defence during the public participation that will be held in different parts of the country.

The video seen by The Kenya Times portrays Gachagua as a national and patriotic leader who has traversed different parts of the country, Africa, and the World for the sake of the development of Kenya.

In what is seen as a last-ditch effort to redeem his image, Gachagua is seen in the video holding babies in hospitals and launching projects.

At the same time, the campaign portrayed the second in command as a hardworking leader acknowledging various achievements he has accomplished over the past two years.

Additionally, he called on Kenyans to turn out in large numbers to defend him during public participation, as sign of patriotism.

The video ends with a hashtag ‘Simama na Gachagua’ loosely translated to mean Stand with Gachagua.

Gachagua’s campaign was also shared by his confidant, Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa through his X account.

Amidst the Deputy President’s impeachment storm, President William Ruto has remained silent about the second-in-command’s tribulations, with some of his allies defending his silence.

Former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT)Secretary General Wilson Sossion downplayed the President’s involvement in Rigathi’s impeachment.

“Even though impeachment is political, where there are legal and sovereign freedoms of institutions to do what they want to do, the President cannot interfere. He definitely won’t.

“Parliament, in exercising its power to oversee, up to and including impeachment, the President will never stop you,” Sossion explained.

Meanwhile, the impeachment motion against the second in command is set for public participation across all 47 counties following a directive by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula.
