Gachagua Sends Message to Gen Zs As He Sets Eyes on 2027

Former Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua has called upon Kenyan youth, popularly known as Gen Z to register as voters ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking on Wednesday, December 18 in Makueni County during a burial service, the former DP stated that he requires 3 to 4 million votes from the Eastern region to clinch the fifty-plus-one votes threshold required for a presidential win.

He stated that he anticipates around 10 million votes from his backyard.

“For one to be president, they need fifty plus one votes. We need your votes from Ukambani, Kitui, Machakos Makueni and Taita Taveta. All young people should register, Gen Z should register, so that we can get 3.5 to 4 million votes,” stated Gachagua.

Gachagua urges young people to get IDs

The former DP urged the young people who have turned 18 years to go and register as voters, stating that it is the only way to be a part of the government.

“I want to challenge you, if at all, you want to be in government, it will not be possible if you remain in your homes. You need to get the young people out to go and register as voters,” said Gachagua

He also advised them not to wait until the elections draw near, for them to register.

“All those who have attained 18 years should get their National Identification (IDs) cards. Once they get their IDs even if they cannot register at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) they can go to the constituency office. Don’t wait until the last day,” added Gachagua.

Voters from Mount Kenya Region deliver 98 percent votes

He also stated that he plans to come together with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who also doubles up as the region’s kingpin.

He urged the people from Ukambani to emulate voters from his backyard – Mount Kenya region it comes to voting.

“We are always on the winning team. Now that we have come together, you are part of the winning team, but you must do your job which is registering as voters and voting. And on the day of voting, be like us who deliver 98 percent of the votes,” stated the former DP.

Rigathi said that he is still in grassroots discussions with kingpins from different regions ahead of the 2027 polls.

During the event, former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu claimed that former President Uhuru Kenyatta asked the people of Mt. Kenya to work with Kalonzo ahead of the elections.

While Gachagua has not clearly stated his intentions since President William Ruto orchestrated his removal from office, the son of Mau Mau has vowed to teach his former boss a lesson.

Riggy G, as he was fondly known, has also asked his supporters to be patient before he announces the way forward in 2025.
