Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua has called out the media for prioritizing politics and failing to cover important church events.
Speaking during the consecration and enthronement of Ven. Antony Mwaura Mambo as Nakuru Diocese Bishop at Nakuru Athletic Club, Gachagua surprised many by avoiding political remarks and instead asking the media to focus on the event.
“I don’t want to say more than that. You people of the media should take what the bishop has said as the story tonight. I don’t have anything to tell you,” Gachagua said.
The DP explained that the bishop had delivered a wonderful sermon that deserved media coverage and public attention.
“The bishop has said important things in his sermon. Please work on a story from that. That is how we will help each other with the church. So that you cover their stories, we will be silent because, at the end of the day, you need a story,” he said.

Gachagua explained journalists can add the event and the sermon to write a wonderful for the evening news and tomorrow’s dailies.
“There was a sermon here. Please work on a story from that. This is also a very colorful ceremony; write a colorful story. You know how to do it: explain the way he walked on this carpet, the way he has a big chair and a throne,” he added.
Besides, the DP congratulated Bishop Anthony Mwaura for being ordained to take charge of the Nakuru diocese.
He also brought congratulatory message from President William Ruto and Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika who are out of the country for official duties.
“I bring congratulation message from President Ruto who is out of the country. He has sent me with a warm congratulation and a message of goodwill, and he wishes good will in your job,” he said.
Drug & Substance Abuse
Gachagua also asked the church to assist the government in the fight against drug and substance abuse.
He explained that the government cannot win this fight without the input of religious leaders.
“The church and the state do the same things; they look after the same people. We need you to help us in mentorship, counseling, and the establishment of rehabilitation centers to help those who are addicted,” he said.

Additionally, he asked the congregation to pray for President Ruto so that he can confidently lead the country, especially in economic transformation.
“You know I am a truthful and honest man, pray for me that I continue being truthful and honest,” he said.
He emphasized that he would listen to the church instead of politicians and friends who are likely to mislead him to make him happy.

Gachagua Attacks Ruto’s Allies
This comes a day after Gachagua accused a section of leaders affiliated with President Ruto of looking down upon him.
Speaking in Kirinyaga County, Gachagua criticized some Cabinet Secretaries, Ruto’s personal assistants, and his friends, stating that they are straining their relationship.
Gachagua dismissed these leaders, explaining that he has only two bosses: President Ruto and the people of Kenya.
“Even some of his friends, his PAs want to order me around on how to do my work. Is it possible? Even bloggers of the president want to tell me what to do,” Gachagua said.
