Govt Deploys 10,000 Officers and Special Female SWAT Unit

The Interior Ministry has deployed 10,000 officers nationwide and a specialized all-female SWAT. 

Speaking to the press, Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said that the move is meant to heighten security for all citizens and visitors during the festive season.

Further, he explained that the female SWAT team will be in charge of addressing femicide and gender-based violence cases

Additionally, the PS noted that security had been enhanced at airports, border points, hotels, malls, beaches, places of worship, tourist sites, and critical infrastructure across major towns.

“The public should expect heightened security with over 10,000 officers deployed nationwide, including a specialized all-female SWAT unit focused on addressing femicide and gender-based violence cases,” said the PS.

Other Measures Put in Place for Officers

Additionally, PS Omollo said that security forces would pay special attention to traffic safety, and safety in entertainment joints.

“Traffic safety is also a priority with more traffic officers deployed to tackle reckless driving, overloaded vehicles, and unlicensed public transport.

“Additionally, proprietors of shopping malls, entertainment joints, and event organizers are urged to collaborate with local security teams to strengthen private security efforts in liaison with the Private Security Regulatory Authority,” he added.

Moreover, the National Multi-Agency Command Centre (NMACC), headquartered at Lang’ata Barracks, will be operational to bring together officers from the Kenya Defence Forces. 

Kenyans have been directed to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or via hotlines: 999, 112, 911, or FichuakwaDCI 0800722203.

Kenya Railways Festive Season Prices

Ahead of the festive season, the Kenya Railways Corporation announced new fare prices for passengers plying the Nairobi- Kisumu route, after the resumption of the Kisumu Safari train service.

Kenya Railways will charge Ksh900 for the economy class ticket, while those who wish to travel in the first-class coaches will part with Khs2,400 for a ticket. The changes will take effect December 6, 2024.

The train will depart the Nairobi Central Station every Friday at 4 pm and will arrive at the Kisumu station on Saturday at 6.30 pm.
