Nairobi County has given an update on the five-storey building that collapsed in Uthiru along Naivasha Road.
Kenya Red Cross reported that the Espsom Apartments located near the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) collapsed on Tuesday, May 7 at around 8: 30p.m.
In an update at 11:50p.m, Nairobi County revealed that all residents of the collapsed building had been accounted for.
Nairobi County Chief Officer of Disaster Management, Bramwel Simiyu, said all the four residents who were missing have been found and there are no casualties.
“All 34 residents of the collapsed building in Nairobi’s Mountain View Ward have been located and are safe. There are no casualties,” read the update.
“Earlier concerns about four missing residents, including a 10-year-old girl, have been cleared.”
Simiyu reported that all the residents were able to jump out to exit the building which was sinking slowly.
“The Nairobi City County emergency team continued to scour the scene while awaiting assistance from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) from Kahawa Barracks, who will bring the sniffer dogs to ensure and eliminate any possibility of individuals trapped in the debris,” added Simiyu.
Additionally, the rescue teams provided immediate humanitarian aid throughout the night and plans were underway to provide further support and facilitate reintegration.

Uthiru Building Collapses
Simiyu earlier reported that four people including a nanny and two children from one household and another 10-year-old girl from another residence were missing.
“The County emergency response team was swiftly deployed to the scene and continue to assist in evacuating residents to safety. As of 10:00 pm, all the families except four persons have been accounted for,” Simiyu stated.
“The four missing persons include a nanny and two children from one household, as well as a 10-year-old girl from another residence. The father of the girl has arrived at the scene and informed the responders that the girl was home alone.”

As of 11p.m, ten people with minor injuries had been attended to at the scene by the Red Cross Action Team.
The multi-agency team at the scene comprised of the Kenya Red Cross, County Fire Brigade, National Police Service (NPS) and the Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS).
