The Kenyan government has disbursed KSh3.51 billion to support more than 1.75 million vulnerable citizens under the Inua Jamii cash transfer program for May 2025.
According to a statement issued on 7 June by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, a total of KSh3,519,312,000 was released through the State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs.
Payments began on June 6, with each beneficiary set to receive KSh2,000.
The Inua Jamii program, a key element of the government’s social safety net, targets some of Kenya’s most at-risk populations, including senior citizens aged 70 and above, orphans and vulnerable children, and persons living with severe disabilities.
“Inua Jamii remains a cornerstone of the Government’s social protection strategy,” said Joseph M. Motari, CBS, Principal Secretary for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs. “We are committed to ensuring that no one is left behind.”
How to Withdraw Inua Jamii Cash
The monthly payments aim to ease the burden of poverty and improve the quality of life for the program’s 1,759,656 enrolled beneficiaries.

The cash transfer initiative continues to play a vital role in promoting equity and dignity for disadvantaged communities across the country.
Inua Jamii had rolled out a USSD code that allows beneficiaries and caregivers to withdraw cash from M-PESA.
Beneficiaries can access cash withdrawals by dialling *222# on their phone and following an easy process.
When initiating self-withdrawals, beneficiaries should visit the nearest M-PESA agent with their ID.
From the Safaricom registered line, the beneficiaries or the caregiver will be required to dial *222#, then select Inua Jamii.
Further, they will select withdraw from the agent and enter the agent number and store number.
Transition to E-citizen
The government, through the State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs announced the immediate transition of the Inua Jamii Programme to the e-Citizen payment platform.
In a statement signed by Principal Secretary Joseph Motari, the information was communicated through an official letter dated January 14, 2025, addressed to various regional, county, and sub-county coordinators and officers involved in children’s services, social development, and disability services.

“The State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs has embarked on the process of migrating all Inua Jamii beneficiaries to the e-Citizen-Mpesa payment platform,” the statement read.
This initiative, effective from the January 2025 payment cycle, will ensure all beneficiaries receive their stipends via the e-Citizen-Mpesa payment platform.
About Inua Jamii
The Inua Jamii program is managed by the Directorate of Social Assistance under the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection.
It was designed to support the welfare of the vulnerable groups in Kenya.
Among the key beneficiaries are the poor and vulnerable children, older persons, persons living with disabilities, and people living in hunger-affected areas.
It provides Ksh2,000 monthly stipends to eligible citizens to cater for social needs.
The program seeks to reduce poverty, promote health and well-being, and strengthen inclusion by offering financial support.
