Different parts of Nairobi experienced traffic snurl up following the ongoing heavy rains across the country.
Early morning on Wednesday, April 24, Mombasa Road, Thika Roads and Roads leading to Upper Hill area experienced traffic snurl ups because of fallen trees and flooded roads.
According to motorists plying those routes, the different circumstances were causing unrest and forcing others to break traffic rules to get ahead.
Along Thika Road for instance, motorists noted that there were floods being experiences in the route especially at Kenyatta University area and Githurai area.
Different Routes in Nairobi Affected by Heavy Traffic
Consequently, motorists headed to Nairobi central Business District (CBD) were advised to divert to Roysambu or Kamiti Road.
“Going to Thika divert at Roysambu to Kamiti road and join bypass, Thika road flooded at car wash Githurai and at KU,” ma3route indicated.
“If you are getting out of town towards Githurai just know both the service lane and highway are flooded if you are able to go through just know going towards Kenyatta University it’s the same,” X user Biya Wambati indicated.

Also, motorists indicated that the area, between Carwash and Githurai was experiencing rising water on the service lane. Because of the slippery road as a result of the rainfall, a trailer plying the road skidded and crashed into the road barriers.
At the same time, two trees in Nairobi central Business District (CBD) fell along Moi Avenue between Naivas Supermarket and Imenti House, blocking the route from both the exit and entrance and rendering it impassable.
However, police officers were seen at the scene manning the road and ensuring flow of traffic.
On the other hand, motorists along Mombasa Road indicated that the Athi Riverbank had burst forcing water onto the roads and causing traffic snurl up.
“Situation along Eastern bypass Nairobi River has flooded. Athi River bridge this morning, Kitengela Traffic diverted to Vanillas to join Mombasa Road,” Ma3Route stated.
At the same time, motorists stated that potholes on the road near Airtel company had gathered puddles of water risking the lives of those plying the route.
“The potholes near Airtel heading to CBD Mombasa Road will cause a serious accident if not prepared,” A user on X, Kunguru said.

Kenya Red Cross Statistics on Number of Deaths
According to Kenya Red Cross, until Tuesday, April 23, the death toll as a result of floods across the country had risen to 38, with Nairobi recording the highest number of casualties.
The humanitarian organization also dispatched a team in Nairobi to assess different areas following a heavy downpour on Tuesday, April 23, evening.
“After heavy downpours in various parts of Nairobi last night, our Nairobi Red Cross Branch team has been dispatched to conduct assessments in most of the affected areas and, if needed, initiate search and rescue operations,’ Kenya Red Cross stated.
According to the latest report from the Kenya Red Cross, more than 20,000 households spanning over 23 counties were affected.
The affected regions include the Coastal area, Central regions including Nairobi, the Western Highlands, Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, South-eastern lowlands, and North-eastern regions.
