The retreat was established in 2012 by British billionaire and politician Michael Spencer.
Born in 1955, Spencer spent part of his childhood in Sudan and Ethiopia before returning to the UK.
He founded NEX Group (formerly Intercapital Brokers), which he later sold to CME Group for Ksh614 billion, earning 3 million CME shares in the process.
He also runs IPGL Group, a private holding company with assets worth over Ksh152 billion.
Spencer served as Treasurer of the UK’s Conservative Party from 2006 to 2010 and was appointed to the House of Lords in 2020.
Beyond Sirai House, he also owns a private clifftop residence in Kilifi. According to Forbes, his net worth stands at about Ksh125 billion.
