A six-day search ended in success after Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) divers retrieved the body of a middle-aged man who drowned at Chepkorio Dam.
Kenya Navy Clearance Diving Unit personnel, supported by the 9th Battalion, Kenya Rifles, recovered the body from the 80-foot-deep dam in Ngeria, along the Eldoret, Nakuru highway, after earlier rescue efforts by local divers and other agencies were unsuccessful.
The recovery operation began after the man, whose identity has not yet been released, reportedly drowned on September 7.
Due to the dam’s depth and complex underwater conditions, conventional SCUBA equipment proved ineffective during initial efforts.
The Kenya Defence Forces deployed a specialized diving team equipped with advanced JJ Closed Circuit Rebreather (CCR) systems, allowing divers to operate longer and search deeper than standard gear permits.
KDF Rescue Mission
This technology ultimately led to the successful location and recovery of the body.
The remains were turned over to local authorities for further investigation and processing.
