If you’ve changed your travel plans or made an error in your passport details, cancelling a Kenyan passport application is possible, but the process depends on whether you’ve submitted your biometrics.
Here’s a breakdown of how to cancel your application, both online and in person.
Before Biometrics: Cancel Online
If you haven’t completed the biometrics stage, that is, your fingerprints and photo haven’t been captured, the cancellation process is straightforward and can be done entirely online.
- Log in to the Government of Kenya Single Sign-On portal at https://accounts.ecitizen.go.ke.
- Navigate to the eFNS (Electronic Foreign Nationals Services) portal.
- Go to the “My Applications” section or your dashboard.
- Locate your passport application and click on the “Cancel” option.
Confirm the cancellation. The application will be closed and removed from the processing queue.
After Biometrics: In-Person Steps Required
If your biometrics have already been taken, or you’ve made a critical error in your application, online cancellation alone won’t work.

For online-only cancellations, speed is your friend. Once biometrics are taken, you’re in for an in-person visit.
Why You Need a Passport
A passport is a primary form of identification that affirms a person’s citizenship and nationality.

For Kenyans, it serves as official proof of citizenship, recognized internationally, and is required when crossing borders.
Without it, traveling abroad for work, study, leisure, or emergencies becomes virtually impossible.
Beyond facilitating movement, a passport opens doors to a wide range of global opportunities. It allows citizens to access international education, job markets, conferences, and cultural exchanges.
It enhances security by documenting citizens’ mobility while providing protection through consular services in foreign countries.
