National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has explained the source of Suna East lawmaker Junet Mohamed’s wealth, detailing the legislator’s ability to donate KSh10 million at a recent women’s empowerment fundraiser.
Speaking during an interview on July 1, Mbadi said the KSh10 million donation announced by the Member of Parliament during a women’s empowerment fundraiser was not solely from him, explaining that Junet had made it clear the contribution came from “himself and friends.”
“Actually, Junet mentioned very well that the contribution was from himself and friends… He clearly stated that from him and friends. So it should be taken that way. Junet was very clear when he presented that donation that it was from me and his friends… It was not entirely from him,” John Mbadi said.
Why Junet’s KSh10M Donation Was Not a Surprise, According to Mbadi
Mbadi dismissed claims that the donation signaled a sudden increase in Junet’s wealth, saying the MP had spent time preparing for the fundraiser and mobilizing support from friends.
He added that it was the first major fundraising Junet had organized in Suna East in a long time.

According to John Mbadi, Junet has been known for his generosity since his first term in Parliament, and he argues that the latest donation should not be viewed as unusual in that context.
“Junet has been very generous. Even when he was in his first term in Parliament. I know that for a fact,” he explained.
He said the event brought together nearly 10,000 women, making a substantial contribution necessary to have a meaningful impact.

John Mbadi also rejected suggestions that the donation was linked to Junet’s political position, saying leaders from different political sides also make similar contributions.
He maintained that such donations depend on an individual’s philanthropy, preparation and willingness to support community events.
Addressing questions about the source of Junet’s wealth, Mbadi said the MP earns income from business ventures in addition to his salary.

He cited interests in the oil and transport sectors, among other businesses, noting that a public official’s financial capacity is not determined solely by salary.
“There are so many people who are in politics and also do business. Like Junaid is known for doing business. Junaid is in the oil business; he’s in the transport business. He’s in many other businesses; some I may not even know. So, it is not about the salary. It’s about your income,” John Mbadi revealed.
On calls for lifestyle audits, Mbadi said the law already allows any state officer to be subjected to such an audit whenever investigative agencies have sufficient grounds.
He argued that the Suna East fundraiser alone should not automatically trigger such action, noting that similar harambees have been held across the country for years.
