K24 Anchor Poached by BBC

Kijabe Street-based Mediamax, which owns K24 TV, and a chain of other brands has suffered a major blow after losing one of its dependable sports anchors to the British Broadcasting Corporation – BBC. 

Kelvin Kimathi, a sports journalist announced on Monday October 2 that he had signed a deal with the London-based giant broadcaster. 

“I am delighted to announce that I have joined the BBC,” said Kimathi in a statement on his social media.

He specified that he would be working with BBC Africa in the department of BBC Sports.

Before his latest signing, Kelvin worked as a sports anchor and producer at K24 TV for three years before announcing his exit.

“Today is my last working day at K24 TV. It has been an absolute honor and pleasure to play a role in the sports team for the last three years,” he stated.

Notably, Kimathi had previously worked at Switch TV and KTN News for one year and 3months.

Kimathi graduated from Multimedia University of Kenya in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism.

Ex K24 Journalist, Ian Wafula

Additionally, Ian Wafula on October 2, announced that he was back to work with the BBC as Africa Security Correspondent based in Nairobi.

“I am back at the BBC as Africa Security Correspondent based in Nairobi,”

In his statement, he said that he was Looking forward to covering and learning from the continent’s complex security nuances.

Additionally, he lauded his friends for being there for him.

“Special thanks to my friends and family for being my constant cheerleaders as well as my Editors for believing in me,” he added.

He hosted and reported for Fact Finder, a program focused on media literacy and fact-checking, in 2018, earning him a nomination for Africa Check Fact Checker of the Year 2019.

Ian worked in local TV stations in Kenya including K24 and KTN News. 

He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from Daystar University and a master’s degree in international journalism from Cardiff University.
