Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame has fired the Minister of Public Service and Labour (MIFOTRA) Dr. Jeanne d’Arc Mujawamariya.
In a statement on July 25, Kagame stated that Dr. Jeanne had been dismissed on allegations of accountability.
However, the head of state noted that following her dismissal, authorities are going to conduct investigations to get to the root of the matter.
“Pursuant to the Constitution of the Republic of Rwanda, especially in its article 116; Today, 25th July 2024, Dr. Jeanne d’Arc Mujawamariya has been dismissed from her position as Minister of Public Service and Labour (MIFOTRA), owing to matters of accountability under investigation,” the statement read.

Profession
Dr Jeanne is a holder of PhD in Physical Chemistry and has previously served as environment minister, a position she held between November 2019 and June 2023.
Similarly, she has worked as Minister of Gender and Family Promotion (2011-2013), and Minister of Education (2006-2008).
In the Ministry of Education, Mujawamariya also held positions such as Minister of State in charge of Higher Education (2005-2006) and Minister of Education in charge of Primary and Secondary Education (2003-2005).
She also served as Rwanda’s ambassador to Russia from 2013 to 2019.
Prior to becoming ambassador in 2013, Mujawamariya was the Vice-Chancellor of then-Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), a position she had held since 2011.

Paul Kagame Wins Election
Dr. Jeanne’s dismissal became President Kagame’s first after he was declared winner in the July 15 general elections.
Kagame was declared the winner by the electoral commission after he garnered 99.15 per cent of the votes.
Following his win, Kenyaa’s President William Ruto congratulated him and commended the people of Rwanda for exercising their constitutional right
“On behalf of the people and Government of Kenya, I have the pleasure to convey warmest congratulations upon your re-election to serve a further term as President of the Republic of Rwanda,” said Ruto.
Tanzania’s president Samia Suluhu also conveyed her congratulatory message while noting that she looked forward to working with him.
In addition, she expressed her willingness to foster East Africa’s unity and prosperity through continued bilateral relations between Tanzania and Rwanda.
“On behalf of the Government and the People of the United Republic of Tanzania, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to His Excellency Paul Kagame, on being re-elected as the President of the Republic of Rwanda.
Kagame has been President since 2000.
