The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary traffic disruption along major highway in Nairobi.
KeNHA in a notice on October 25, 2024, announced a temporary traffic disruption on Mombasa Road (A8) near Panari Hotel, citing scheduled road works.
The Authority said that the scheduled road works will take place from Tuesday, October 29, 2024, to November 22, 2024.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Panari Hotel, will experience traffic disruption along the Mombasa bound lanes from Tuesday October 29, 2024, to Friday November 22, 2024,” read the notice in part.
This is to allow for realignment of the road and construction of a mid-span footbridge foundation at the median between the Mombasa bound lanes and the adjacent Nairobi Expressway fence.
Disruption on Mombasa Road
KeNHA advised motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan below and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site.
The disruption comes after the authority in August 29 announced a temporary traffic disruption at Haile Selassie Roundabout on Uhuru Highway A8 Road, citing scheduled road works.
KeNHA stated that the scheduled road works are set to take place from 31st August 2024 to Tuesday 15th October 2024.
“This traffic disruption is due to scheduled road works for construction of pedestrian underpass at the section which will commence from Saturday August 31, 2024, to Tuesday October 15, 2024,” read part of the notice.

KeNHA to Spend Ksh42M to Beautify Mombasa Road
The authority had earlier announced that it will spend Ksh42 million beautifying Mombasa Road, which extends from Athi River to Westlands.
According to KeNHA Director-General Kungu Ndung’u, this aims to enhance the visual appeal of a critical artery that serves as the main gateway to Nairobi from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
The first contractor, with a budget of Ksh18 million, will revitalise the lower deck of the road between the James Gichuru interchange and the Ole Sereni Hotel interchange.
The second contractor will focus on the segment from the Ole Sereni Hotel interchange to Athi River and has been allocated Ksh24 million for this task.
“We have hired two contractors to beautify Mombasa Road, and we intend to undertake a facelift of the road given the importance of this artery, which is the gateway to Nairobi from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA),” Kungu said.

“We are jointly working with Nairobi City County to improve the status of Mombasa Road. We know that the road from JKIA to the city center is poorly maintained.”
Tharaka Nithi Senator Mwenda Gataya had criticized the poor condition of Mombasa Road as very dusty and bushy which serves as Kenya’s gateway from the airport.
Gataya pointed out that the lower deck of the road, from the airport to the Central Business District (CBD), is cluttered with dirt and overgrown bushes, creating an unwelcoming view for visitors.
