Motorists using major roads in Nairobi are advised to take alternative routes, as six key roads will be inaccessible from 11:00 pm on Saturday, October 26, to 1:30 pm on Sunday, October 27 ahead of Stanchart Marathon.
The Standard Chartered Marathon, which will commence at Uhuru Gardens along Lang’ata Road, with participants following a scenic route along the Southern Bypass.
“The 5km Family Fun Run will finish on the Southern Bypass, while all other race categories will conclude at Uhuru Gardens,” Standard Chartered said.
“With more than 25,000 participants registered, the Nairobi Traffic Department has prepared a road closure schedule to ensure smooth operations and minimise disruptions.”
Among roads to be affected are Dagoretti Road Interchange, Southern Bypass/ Ngong Rod Interchange, and Southern Bypass/ Langata Road Interchange.
Other roads include the ICD turning point and Traffic diversion and the Southrn Bypass from Waityaki way.
Alternative Routes Ahead of StanChart Marathon
Motorists traveling from Kikuyu to Dagoretti via the Southern Bypass will be able to access these areas through the bypass.
Vehicles driving from Karen (Karinde) to Kikuyu can also use the Southern Bypass via Dagoretti Road. For vehicles trying to reach Mombasa Road from Karen Shopping Centre via the Southern Bypass, the recommended route is Lang’ata Road.

The 15-kilometer stretch from Karen Shopping Centre to Kikuyu Town via the Southern Bypass will remain inaccessible during the road closures, with motorists advised to use Dagoretti Road as an alternative.
Additionally, the Southern Bypass stretch connecting Galleria Mall to Kikuyu will be closed for the marathon, and drivers are urged to use Dagoretti via Lang’ata Road.
Accessing Mombasa Road from Galleria Mall via the Southern Bypass will not be possible for most of Sunday morning, with vehicles directed to use Uhuru Highway through Lang’ata Road.
For travelers heading to Ole Sereni Hotel on Mombasa Road, access will only be possible via NextGen Mall, as the usual Southern Bypass route will be closed.

Other Road Diversions
Meanwhile, vehicles connecting from Likoni Road to Mombasa Road via the Southern Bypass are advised to use Enterprise Road instead.
Motorists traveling from Kikuyu to Mombasa Road via the Southern Bypass are advised to use Waiyaki Way as an alternative route.

Furthermore, those driving from Dagoretti to Mombasa Road via the Southern Bypass can either use Waiyaki Way or opt for Ngong Road and Mbagathi Way.
Drivers commuting from Lenana (Ngong Road) to Kikuyu are encouraged to use Waiyaki Way, accessible either through Naivasha Road or James Gichuru Road.
Motorists driving from Lenana (Ngong Road) to Mombasa Road via the Southern Bypass should take Langata Road through Karen Road.
Additionally, trailers and lorries heading to Mombasa Road via the Southern Bypass are required to use Waiyaki Way.
About StanChart Marathon
The marathon will feature runners across various categories, with the 42 km full marathon starting at 6:00 a.m., the 21 km wheelchair race beginning at 5:45 a.m., and the 5 km race set to commence at 10:00 a.m.
Most categories will conclude at Uhuru Gardens, while the Family Fun Run will wrap up on the Southern Bypass.
Participants will also compete for a substantial prize pool of Ksh12.9 million, with the top winner in the 42 km full marathon set to receive Ksh2 million.
