The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has issued a travel advisory for the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and Wilson Airport.
In a statement on August 3, KAA said the advisory has been necessitated by the fact that Nairobi is hosting a key match of the African Nations Championship (CHAN), one of Africa’s premier football tournaments.
The Authority said several major roads in the city will be fully closed or partially restricted to facilitate the smooth movement of teams, officials, and fans, and to enhance security around the match venue.
“Traffic disruptions are expected, affecting travel times to and from JKIA and Wilson Airport,” KAA said.
KAA Gives Alternative Routes
KAA also provided a table for road closures and recommended diversions.
Aerodrome Road will be fully closed from Madaraka roundabout to Bunyala roundabout.
Motorists travelling from Mombasa Road to Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) have been advised to use Likoni-Enterprise Road or the Southern Bypass
Lang’ata Road will also be closed on one side from Madaraka roundabout to Lusaka roundabout.
Motorists have been directed to use Raila Odinga Road or Muhoho Road.
Similarly, Mombasa Road will be closed on one side from the Lusaka roundabout to the Bunyala roundabout.
Those driving from Nairobi CBD to Thika Road, Ruiru, Juja, and Thika have been advised to use Limuru Road or Kiambu Road.
However, motorists from Thika Road have been redirected to use Eastern Bypass, Kiambu Road, or Limuru Road.

JKIA & Wilson Airport Passengers
KAA explained that these road closures and restrictions in Nairobi will impact routes to and from JKIA and Wilson Airport.
The Authority has urged passengers to plan, allow extra travel time, and check their flight schedules.
“Passengers are strongly urged to check flight schedules and allow for prolonged travel times to ensure timely arrival at JKIA or Wilson Airport. Should you require any assistance or additional information, you may reach KAA Customer Service at JKIA by calling +254 20 661 1000 or +254 20 661 2000.
