The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released a five-day weather forecast for the period starting May 29 and ending June 2, 2025.

Kenya Met published the weather outlook in the wake of chilly conditions being experienced in various parts of the country.

According to the forecast, Kenyans in several parts of the country, including Nairobi and its environs, should brace themselves for a continued cold season during this period.

Rainfall is expected to continue over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central Rift Valley and the Coast.

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, which includes Nairobi County, minimum night temperatures will range between 5°C and 8°C, with maximum temperatures set to rise up to between 27°C and 28°C.

This region also covers the counties of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi.

“According to our latest forecast, early morning and night-time temperatures in Nairobi and surrounding areas are expected to range between 12°C and 16°C. Lower temperatures between 5°C and 8°C are only expected in higher-altitude areas such as Nyahururu, which are typically cooler during this season,” noted KMD.

“While chilly mornings and fog are normal for this time of year, no winter-like conditions are forecast for Nairobi at this time.”

According to the weatherman, some areas in the Central Highlands are likely to experience cloudy mornings that will give way to sunny intervals during the forecast period. There is also a chance of rainfall over a few areas on Monday, June 2.

These conditions are expected to alternate with afternoon showers in some areas, while partly cloudy nights with chances of showers are forecast throughout the period.

Meanwhile, the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley are expected to continue receiving heavy rainfall.

Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely in several areas throughout the forecast period. Rainy conditions will alternate with sunny intervals in many locations during the mornings, while night-time showers are expected in some parts.

The average minimum night-time temperature in this region is projected to drop to around 10°C, while daytime temperatures may rise to about 29°C.

Daytime temperatures in these areas may reach up to 32°C, with minimum night-time temperatures dipping to around 23°C.

In the South-Eastern Lowlands—including Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta, along with inland areas of Tana River—minimum temperatures are expected to be around 12°C, with highs reaching up to 31°C.

Sunny intervals are forecast for a few places during the afternoons, while cloudy mornings breaking into sunny spells are also expected. Nights are likely to remain partly cloudy.

Northern Kenya

In the North-Eastern counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, sunny days are expected throughout the period, with partly cloudy nights.

The weatherman has warned that maximum daytime temperatures in these areas will exceed 37°C.

Parts of North-Western Kenya—particularly Turkana and Samburu counties—will also experience sunny days and partly cloudy nights.

Minimum temperatures may drop to about 9°C, with highs reaching up to 36°C.

KMD also said that strong southerly to south-easterly winds with speeds exceeding 25 knots (12.86 m/s) are expected over the Coast (and Kenya’s territorial waters), the South-eastern lowlands, North-eastern and North-western Kenya.
