The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast rainfall across seven counties this week, with daytime temperatures expected to exceed 30°C in several parts of the country. In a statement on September 8, Kenya Met said most parts of Kenya are expected to remain generally dry from September 8 to 14, 2026.
“As we approach the October–December (OND) short-rains season, most parts of the country are expected to remain generally dry this week,” the statement read in part.
Kenya Met Lists Regions to Experience Rains
However, the weatherman said some parts of Lamu, Kilifi, Tana River, Mombasa, Kwale, Narok and Bomet counties are likely to receive rainfall during the week.
The forecast comes as Kenya approaches the October–December (OND) short-rains season, with farmers encouraged to prepare their farms and inputs ahead of the season.
Additionally, communities in flood-prone areas have been advised to stay alert and keep drainage channels clear.

Morning and Afternoon Showers in Several Parts
The Meteorological Department forecasts morning showers in several parts of Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Tana River and Lamu counties.
Afternoon showers and thunderstorms may occur in parts of Baringo, Bungoma, Busia, Siaya, Kakamega, Vihiga, Nandi, Elgeyo/Marakwet, Bomet, Kisumu, Kericho, Nyamira, Kisii, Migori, Narok, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, and Trans Nzoia counties.

Afternoon showers are also likely in parts of Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Embu, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Nyeri, Kiambu, Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu, Mombasa, and Tana River counties.
Night showers may occur in parts of Kilifi, Mombasa, Kakamega, and Bungoma counties.
Temperatures Soar Above 30°C This Week
According to Kenya Met, daytime temperatures averaging above 30°C are expected in Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, Garissa, Wajir, Isiolo, Marsabit and Turkana counties.
The department also forecasts night-time temperatures averaging below 10°C in parts of Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nakuru, Narok, Taita/Taveta and Kajiado counties.

Mandera to record the highest maximum temperature at 38°C, followed by Lodwar at 37°C, while Garissa and Wajir are expected to reach 36°C.
Other areas expected to record temperatures of 30°C and above include Kisumu, Suba, Thika, Makindu, Kitui, Voi, Lamu, Malindi, Mombasa, Kakamega and Kisii.
The coldest night-time temperatures are expected in Nyahururu at 4°C, Narok at 8°C, Kitale at 7°C and Kericho at 9°C.
Nairobi is forecast to record a maximum temperature of 29°C and a minimum of 10°C, while Nakuru is expected to reach 30°C during the day and fall to 12°C at night.
