Kenyan Passport Ranked Among Most Powerful in Africa

The Kenyan passport has been ranked among the most powerful in Africa. 

A report from UK-based global citizenship and residence advisory firm Henley & Partners has ranked Kenyan passport at position 7 in Africa.

The Kenyan passport is ranked at position 73 in the world.

The report, based on data from the International Air Transport Association (ITATA), ranks all the world’s 199 passports according to the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa.

Based on the Henley index, the Japanese passport was ranked the most powerful in the world with 193 visa-free destinations.

The least powerful passport was Afghanistan with their citizens only able to access 27 visa-free destinations.

According to the Henley & Partners, Kenyan passport holders can access 73 destinations without a visa in 2023.

South African passport was ranked the most powerful in Africa as its citizens can access 106 destinations without a prior visa.

Somalia’s passport was ranked the worst in Africa as its citizens can only access 35 destinations without a prior visa.

The top 10 best African passports in 2023, according to the Henley index are South Africa (106 visa-free destinations), Botswana (87 visa-free destinations), Namibia (79 visa-free destinations), Lesotho (77 visa-free destinations) and eSwatini (75 visa-free destinations)

At position 6 is Malawi (74 visa-free destinations), Kenya (73 visa-free destinations), Tanzania (72 visa-free destinations), Zambia (71 visa-free destinations), Tunisia (70 visa-free destinations) and Uganda (67 visa-free destinations).

The top 10 worst performing African passports in 2023, according to the Henley index are Somalia (35 visa-free destinations), Libya (41 visa-free destinations) and Congo (Dem. Rep.)

Others are Sudan (42 visa-free destinations), Eritrea, South Sudan (44 visa-free destinations), Ethiopia, Nigeria (46 visa-free destinations), Djibouti (48 visa-free destinations) and Liberia (49 visa-free destinations).
