The Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission to Haiti has called on Haitian gangs to surrender to the government.
On September 1, the National Police Service (NPS) reported that the MSS, in collaboration with the Haitian National Police (HNP), urged gang leaders to cease violence.
“MSS urges gang members to lay down their weapons and surrender to the government,” the notice stated.
The NPS revealed that the MSS and Haitian police are conducting clearance operations in Delmas, Bel-Air, Solino, and nearby areas to eliminate gangs and restore normalcy.
This follows the recent delivery of additional vehicles and equipment from the U.S. government, which has bolstered their joint operations with Haitian counterparts.
“The pacification operations will take place on sea, land, and air, clearing roads and streets to allow the normal flow of people and vehicles,” the update added.
Furthermore, the MSS called on the Haitian people, authorities, and stakeholders to continue supporting the mission to re-establish security and create conditions for free and fair elections.
The MSS affirmed its commitment to its mandate, as outlined in United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2699, by working with the HNP to ensure a safe and secure Haiti.

Haiti Progress Report
In a progress report on August 26, the NPS marked two months since the first Kenyan Police Contingent to the MSS was deployed in Port-au-Prince.
The NPS explained that the MSS team has made significant progress through cooperation with the HNP and the people of Haiti, although the mission is still in its deployment phase.
Additionally, the NPS revealed that the MSS has successfully mitigated threats to public safety and security, taken control of critical infrastructure, including the airport, from gangs, and reopened essential roads, allowing thousands of displaced Haitians to return.

“The NPS is also collaborating closely with other countries, partners, and the United Nations to ensure continued support for the MSS,” the report stated.
The Service clarified that NPS officers continue to receive their regular salaries, and their MSS deployment allowances have also been finalized. The NPS commended MSS Force Commander Godfrey Otunge, SAIG, and his team for their patriotism and dedication to duty and wished them success in their mission to restore peace and stability in Haiti.
