The Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM) to Haiti has provided an update on the payment of salaries to Kenya police in Haiti.
In an update about the mission MSSM stated that the process of paying the officers has been finalized and the money will soon be available in their banks.
“The process for the disbursement of salaries to the MSSM officers accounts has been finalized and it is expected that the same will soon be reflected in their individual bank accounts in the course of this week,” MSSM said in a statement dated August 25.
Additionally, the Support Mission said it has established a better mechanism to ensure the officers are paid on time.
“Going forward, an elaborate mechanism has been put in place where payments will be promptly done at the end of the month,” MSSM added.
“Therefore, there is nothing to worry about welfare issues of the MSS officers since mainstream processes have been finalized.”
Haiti Mission Update
MSSM revealed it has made several milestones in collaboration with Haiti National Police (HNP) despite being on the deployment phase of the mission.
The Support Mission appreciated the existing provided amenities in terms of welfare even as other logistics are being mobilized to make the mission a success.
“The MSSM officers have been enjoying and continue to make use of the available communication and interactive systems which have enabled them to communicate with their loved ones back at home,” the statement read.

MSSM emphasized that the officers remain committed, patriotic and focused on the success of the Mission.
According to MSSM, the officers believe and trust that their welfare issues are being addressed by the entire leadership including Kenya, the Trust fund Advisory Board and the MSS.
“The MSSM is anchored under Human Rights due Diligence Policy and Trust Fund which is facilitated voluntarily from donor countries. We are happy to report that the concerned body has moved with speed to put in place elaborate mechanisms and framework which have operationalized the usage of the Trust Fund,” the statement said.

Delayed Salaries
The clarification comes after reports that the officers are yet to receive their salaries under the UN-backed operation.
Kenyan police officers have been in Haiti for two months. The first team landed in Haiti on June 25 while the second one arrived a month later on July 16.
