Kiambu County Announces Disposal of 81 Unclaimed Bodies

The County Government of Kiambu Department of Health Services has announced the disposal of 81 unclaimed bodies.

In a notice on October 28, the county said the bodies have been lying at the Thika Level 5 General Hospital’s General Kago Road Funeral Home from the date of admission awaiting collection.

The County directed the public to view and collect the bodies within two weeks before they are disposed of pursuant to the Public Health Act Cap 242 (Subsidiary: Public Health, Public Mortuaries) Rules, 1991) (2).

“Interested members of the public are therefore requested to identify and collect the bodies within 14 days from the date hereof, failure to which Thika Level 5 Hospital will seek authority from the courts to dispose of the unclaimed bodies,” reads part of the notice.

Bodies from the Hospital

There are 19 unclaimed bodies that originated from the Thika Level Hospital wards and Intensive Care Units (ICU).

This includes John Gatonye Rembo and Joseph Mulwa Ndonga whose bodies were brought from Ward 4 and admitted at the Funeral Home in September 2021 and April 2022 respectively.

Identities of the bodies from ICU include Kilonzo Munau, Moses Kabage Gachuki, an unknown male, Lucy Wanjiru admitted at the Facility on August, September and October 2023 respectively and Blessings Adero Akongo who was brought on March 9, 2024.

Ward 4

Additionally, there are eight bodies which were brought from Ward 4.

This includes the bodies of Peter Loba and Daniel Mwathe Kesi admitted in October 2023.

Others are Benjamin Otieno, Paul Mbuvi Serna Ahekina and Boniface Mutua admitted in November 2023.

The bodies of Patrick Gichuru Marete and that of an unknown African male were also from the ward and brought to the Funeral Home on February 28, 2024.

Further, the bodies of an unknown African man alias John Thiongo and another unknown African male were admitted to the facility from Casualty Ward in January and February 2024.

The body of Lawrence Kinywa was transferred to the Facility in April 2024 while that of an unknown African male was brought in from the OPD in March 2024.

Bodies from Kiambu Police Stations

There are six bodies of unknown African males from Thika admitted into the Home in August, September and December 2023, two in January 2024 and March 2024.

Besides, there are three unknown bodies from Ruiru including a 6-month-old African female child and two African male.

The child’s body was admitted on December 15, 2023, while the two males were brought in January and April 2024.

Pinhas Rukenya Nguthiru, Peter Gathiki and an unknown African male were admitted from Ngati in January, March and April 2024 respectively.

Further, the bodies of Patrick Macharia Maina, Alenstic Macharia Warui and two unknown individuals (male and female) were received from Kirwara.

Patrick and the unknown African male were admitted in 2023 while the other two bodies were booked in the Facility in March 2024.

The Home has ten unclaimed bodies from Juja including Johnson Kilonzo, Stephen Malomba Musyoka, Ali Mohammed Musa, 5 unknown African males and 2 unknown infants.

There are 8 bodies from Makongeni: John Gichunge Gichur, Nyakwara alias Mkisii, Shedrack Wambua Manthi, 3 Unknown African males and 2 unknown infants.

Other Bodies

Additionally, bodies of 6 unknown infants received from Gatong’ora between February and March 2024 have not been claimed.

There are also three other bodies of unknown infants admitted into the Facility from Weitethie.

The Facility has 4 unclaimed bodies from Ndithini all of whom are unknown African males.

From the Theta, there are three unclaimed bodies, two unknown African males and an infant.

The bodies of Baby Teresiah Njeri from Gatundu North and Mary Waruguru from Gatanga also remain unclaimed.

There are two unknown African male bodies from  Ngoliba and Makuyu that are lying at the facility.

Other bodies include four African males from Ngoingwa, Oldonyo Sabuk and 2 from Kiandutu.

Bodies of Boniface Muthoka Mutee and Kioko Nganga from Ithanga and that of an infant from Kimuchu also remain unclaimed.
