Moved by his plight, the Kikuyu legislator felt obliged to help him and planned a meeting with Kevin on Tuesday, February 20, to discuss further details about the possibilities of his appointment.
“A friend of mine forwarded the video of that young man who recorded himself. A young man called Kevin Omondi Onyango from Migori. A first-class honor with a bachelor’s in economics degree. A CPAK who is doing manual jobs in the EPZ in Kitengela,” he said during a parliament sitting.

“I have an appointment with that young man next week on Tuesday to see how we can help him, because it is not just enough to talk about people, but we must do something to create jobs for them.”
Ichung’wa empathized with Kevin’s situation noting that a person with his brilliance could be a great asset to some of the projects the government was working on.

“Kevin Omondi can work as an accountant in cement factories in Athi River or steam factories or even become very good accountants for contractors who are doing the Affordable Housing projects,” added Ichung’wah.

Kevin Omondi Goes Viral
Kevin Omondi’s story went viral on Wednesday, February 14, when he shared a video detailing his story saying that he was working as a casual laborer despite attaining high levels of education.
He said that he graduated with a first-class honors degree in Economics from Maasai Mara University in December 2019 and also pursued Certified Public Accountants (CPA) certifications alongside his coursework with high hopes of transitioning into the career world.
However, he failed to secure a job in his field of study and was now working at a site where he sorted industrial rugs used in factories to wipe off excess oil on machines in the country.
According to his account, the job was physically draining, mentally stressful and socially isolating.
“I never attended any CPA classes but despite this obstacle I took it upon myself to study and prepare for CPA exams independently. I not only passed but excelled in my examination,” he said.

“In the November 2019 CPA examination sitting, I was nationally ranked as the best candidate in the quantitative analysis paper. Similarly, in the November 2020 examination sitting, I achieved the highest ranking in the advanced Management Accounting paper.”
Appeal for a Job
Kevin sent an emotional message to prospective employers seeking for a job. He said that he wanted to become a beacon of hope to others in situations such as his.
He said that he was often ridiculed for his high academic achievements including his First-Class Honors, adding that many in the society had undermined his education.
“It is painful when we are bombarded with comments like ‘ona ako na first class na hana kazi mzuri. kama hauna connections hauwezi toboa. Siku hizi ni kujuana.’ Which translates to “he has a First-Class Honors but does not have a job, you have to have connections to do well these days”.
“These remarks not only undermine or effort but adds to the pressure we feel to succeed. it is demoralizing to be called first class sarcastically,” he said.
