The Leader of Majority in the National Assembly Kimani Ichung’wah on Sunday, July 23 addressed reports of genocide allegedly going on in Nyanza region.
Responding to the Minority Leader in the National Assembly Opiyo Wandayi, Ichung’wah blamed the violent demonstrations for the loss of lives and property.
In his earlier statement, Wandayi had alleged that the events in Luo Nyanza were pre-planned.
“The genocide-like operation underway in Luo land is not accidental. It is coordinated and pre-meditated.
It is being coordinated by political and government leaders both from the community and outside.
It is unfortunate and indeed depressing that our sons and daughters in government are working with outsiders to allow the extermination of Luo,” Wandayi said.
On his part, Ichungwa’h stated that the country was treated to anarchy, destruction of property, looting and total insecurity because of the Azimio demonstrations.
Furthermore, he explained that the Azimio la Umoja protests did not uphold their right to the constitution to demonstrate peacefully.
“While Azimio clings on Article 37 of the Constitution on the right to demonstrate and picket, they conveniently leave out a critical part of the provision that expressly states that everyone has a right to peaceably and unarmed, demonstrate and picket.

Massive looting and destruction of property characterized Azimio protests, which kicked off on Wednesday, July 19 to Friday.
On Profiling Certain Tribes
Ichungw’ah said it was unfortunate that Wandayi made the statement, yet he holds a position of influence in the country.
“Nyanza region leadership right from its top leadership of Mr. Odinga and his sidekicks must desist from profiling the Luo community that is otherwise a great community that has contributed immensely to the growth of our nation.
We in Kenya Kwanza detest the profiling of any government or public official based on their ethnicity,” the Majority leader stated.

Moreover, he added that Kisumu, Migori or Homabay is home to many ethnic communities and nobody claiming to be a leader should characterize anyone.
Ichung’wah Messages to the Nyanza People
At the same time, the vocal lawmaker said that the best leadership can do is to lead the people from economic emancipation and not in destructive and retrogressive politics.
“The least people of Nyanza should expect and must demand from this cabal of leaders is responsible leadership that will not enslave the masses to perpetual poverty as they appoint their kin to high public offices and use the masses to further negotiate for more positions for their family members.
He said despite the understanding of their political desperation, the Kenya Kwanza government will not allow ethnic profiling.
“Whereas we understand the desperation of Mr. Odinga ad his sidekicks emanating from the loss of the only political currency he had, the card of violence as a tool for political blackmail and negotiating himself to power, we must caution them that the avenue of ethnic profiling they are resorting to is now late in the day,” the statement read.
