The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced a four-hour scheduled maintenance of the iTax system, warning users that the platform will be temporarily unavailable.
The maintenance will take place from Thursday, 18th September 2025, at 10:00 PM to Friday, 19th September 2025, at 2:00 AM.
All iTax users will be affected during this period, and KRA has urged taxpayers to plan their transactions ahead of time.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and advise users to complete urgent filings before the scheduled downtime,” read the KRA statement.
The authority stressed that maintenance is necessary to ensure the smooth operation and reliability of the iTax platform, which is used nationwide for tax submissions and payments.

Likewise, it advises on matters relating to the administration and collection of revenue under the written laws or the specified provisions of the written laws.
Kenya Revenue Authority Tax Base Expansion
KRA pledged to address challenges faced by the informal sector in a bid to incentivise and onboard the sector’s players into the tax net.
Speaking during the 2023 Annual Tax Summit, Commissioner General Humphrey Wattanga said that the sector, which is estimated to employ about fifteen million people, accounting for 83 per cent of the country’s total labour force, has a great tax potential and should be facilitated to uphold compliance.

“One of the initiatives under KRA’s tax base expansion programme is netting the informal sector into the tax bracket, the majority of whom are the MSMEs. This, therefore, informs the need to design strategies and policy interventions to enable Kenya Revenue Authority to tap this sector into the tax bracket,” said Wattanga.
Likewise, the taxman is playing a crucial role in the realisation of President William Ruto’s vision, especially in funding the budget through revenue collection.
To ramp up tax collection, the authority, in partnership with the Kenya Defence Forces, trained and deployed Revenue Assistants across the country.
