Chief government pathologist Johansen Oduor has revealed findings of the autopsy examinations conducted on bodies retrieved from the Kware dumpsite in Nairobi and answered the question on allegations that they had bullet wounds.
While addressing the media on 17th July 2024, Johansen in collaboration with the team from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), said that none of the nine bodies retrieved from the dumpsite had a gunshot wound.
He further explained that most of the bodies had decomposed therefore it was hard to identify their cause of death.
This statement cleared fears insinuating that the bodies belonged to victims shot during the anti-finance bill protests which happened in June.
“The contents of some of them were lower limbs which were amputated from the knees downwards and they were two right legs and two left legs,” he said.

Likewise, the chief pathologist revealed that some bodies were missing their lower limbs and other bodies had cuts on the lower back and were dismembered.
Additionally, he said that they were taking DNA samples to help account for the number of bodies.
“We are taking samples of DNA for the purpose of reconciling with each piece so that we can know how many bodies we have,” he noted.
According to a statement by the DCI, 13 female body parts that were severely dismembered and at different stages of decomposition had been recovered from the Kware dump site between 11th July to 15th July ,2024.
The retrieved body parts are in Nairobi Funeral Home formerly known as city mortuary where some of them have been identified by their kin.
The autopsy results came after the DCI captured two other persons in connection to the killings of women whose bodies were found dumped at Kware in Mukuru slums ,Nairobi.
DCI in a statement on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, said that the two suspects are being held to assist in the investigations, adding that one of the suspects was found in possession of a victim’s phone.
