The latest statistics from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) has detailed essential items whose prices recorded an increase and decrease in March 2024.
According to the report, the overall Consumer Price Index (CPI) has continued to increase including in March 2024, due to the fluctuation in prices of different commodities.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) is used to monitor the price movements and how they affect policy decisions.
As a result, the prices of food items including onions and mangoes increased in March by 11 percent and 8 percent respectively (per Kilogram) compared to the prices in February.

Other Food Items Whose Prices Increased
At the same time, compared to the month of February, the price of one kilogram of tomatoes increased by 1.8 percent while that of cabbages increased by 1.8 percent.
Additionally, the price of one kilogram of beef with bones increased by 0.6 percent while the price of one kilogram of potatoes increased by 7.7 percent.
The price of Oranges increased by 2.6 percent in the month of March.
KNBS Lists Food Items Whose Prices Dropped
On the other hand, the report indicated that the price of 2 kilograms of wheat flour packet reduced by 4.8 percent in March, while the price of 2 kilograms of sifted maize flour reduced by 5.8 percent.
Also, the price of one kilogram of loose maize grain reduced by 4.9 percent while the price of one kilogram of loose maize flour reduced by 9.6 percent.
The price of a 2-kilogram fortified maize flour packet reduced by 5.1 percent and the price of one kilogram of carrots reduced by 2.8 percent.
Additionally, the KNBS report detailed that the price of one kilogram of sugar reduced by 5.3 percent while the price of loose maize grain reduced by 4.9 percent.

Non-Food Items
Other non-food items whose prices decreased include Kerosene by 2.3 percent per liter, while that of Diesel by 2.6percent per litre.
The price of one litre of petrol reduced by 3.5 percent while the price of 50 kilowatts of electricity reduced by 0.4 percent.
At the same time, the monthly rent of a single room increased by 0.4 percent while the pice of LPG gas increased by 1.4 percent in the month of March.
