The community in Siaya County was left reeling in shock after an unidentified man entered a local catholic church and defecated on a statue of Jesus.
The incident, which was captured on CCTV footage, has sent shockwaves through the local community and has the police working to identify and apprehend the suspect.
According to Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo, the incident occurred at the St. Andrew’s Bondo Catholic Church, where the man dressed in a black and white striped shirt and black trousers, entered the church while a few congregants were in prayer.
“Upon reviewing the CCTV footage, it was established that a stranger who was dressed in a black and white striped shirt and black trousers entered the church hall when a few congregants were deep in prayer,” Kimaiyo added.
Kimaiyo stated that the man proceeded to the upper gallery, took the statue, and defecated on it before hiding it underneath the pews.
Siaya Parish Head Reports the Incident to Police
The incident was promptly reported to Bondo Police Station by the parish priest, Rev. Father Edwin Obudho, who expressed his dismay at the man’s actions.
“The heinous act was reported at Bondo police station by the parish priest, Rev. Father Edwin Obudho,” Kimaiyo said.

Efforts to trace the suspect are ongoing, and the police are reviewing the CCTV footage to gather more information about the incident.
The incident has left the community in shock, and the police are urging anyone with information about the suspect to come forward.
Similar Shocking Incident in Church
This incident comes just a month after a related shocking incident occurred in a church in Sydney, Australia.
On April 16, 2024, an Australian bishop identified as Mar Mari Emmanuel was delivering his sermon from his church in western Sydney when a teenager approached the podium.
The service was being live streamed for his social media followers, who watched in horror as Bishop Emmanuel was stabbed by the 16-year-old.
Four other men suffered cuts in the attack, and the boy was detained by the congregation until police arrived.

Subsequently, the 16-year-old boy was arrested and charged with committing a terrorist act.
The bishop has since forgiven the attacker and expressed his gratitude for the support of his followers.
“I am doing fine, recovering very quickly … there is no need to be worried or concerned, I forgive whoever has done this act … I will always pray for you and whoever sent you to do this, I forgive them as well,” said the bishop.
