Deputy Inspector General of Police (IG), Gilbert Masengeli, led Kenyans in celebrating the popular Trans Nzoia chief known for his viral phrase “Misheveve”.
Wechuli retired on Saturday, April 5, at his home in Kapretwa, Saboti Ward, Trans Nzoia County, marking the end of a colorful career in public service that blended community leadership with viral humor.
The administrator, celebrated for his unique and humorous problem-solving approach, captured the attention of both his constituents and Kenyans on social media. He retired after over ten years of service.
Masengeli gifted Chief Wechuli a bull as a sign of gratitude for his service.

Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa also joined fellow leaders and the community in celebrating the charismatic administrator, whose unique communication style earned him nationwide popularity.
In a statement on Saturday, April 5 Wamalwa said the Chief has been celebrated by Kenyans from all walks of life.
“One of the most popular chiefs in Kenya, Wechuli, aka ‘Musieveve,’ retired today and was celebrated by Kenyans from all walks of life for his distinguished service. What a joyous day in Saboti, Trans Nzoia County! Hongera my friend!” he said.
At the same time, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi commended the chief for his dedication and the unique humor he brought to leadership, which endeared him to many.
Meanwhile, the lawmaker gifted the retiring chief a brand-new motorcycle as a token of appreciation.
Amisi urged fellow chiefs to emulate Chief Misheveve’s approach, blending hard work with humor to create a lasting impact.
“I was delighted to attend Senior Chief Protus Wechuli’s (Chief Misheveve) retirement celebration in Kapretwa, Saboti Ward. His dedication and unique sense of humor made him a beloved leader,” he said.
“As a token of appreciation, I gifted him a new motorcycle and also handed over a bull courtesy of Deputy Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli. I encourage all chiefs to emulate his leadership—dedicated, with a touch of humor. Wishing you the best in this next chapter, Chief.”

Chief Protus Wechuli Rising to Fame
Wechuli became well-known through viral videos, with the most notable one where he recounted an incident where a man allegedly killed his father over a dispute about vegetables.
He enjoyed using the phrases “karibu mno mno” and “asante mno mno,” which loosely translate to “thank you so much” and “welcome so much,” respectively.
The video, which featured his unique “misheveve” phrase, endeared him to millions of Kenyans seeking both laughter and local insight.
In the viral video, Wechuli humorously narrated how a young man quarreled with his mother over the vegetables she cooked, which he did not like.

How ‘Misheveve’ Phrase Became Viral
In an interview with Tumbili TV, Chief Wechuli revealed that the video of him narrating the incident was filmed 17 years ago.
In his witty recounting of the event, he is heard saying:
“Akaulizia Mama, umepika mboga gani? Mama akasema, leo nimeunda misheveve. Kijana akasema, sikutaka hizi, nilitaka sarat,” the Chief narrated in 2008.
Loosely translated, this means: “He (the young man) asked his mother what type of vegetables she had cooked, and she replied that she had made Misheveve (pumpkin vegetables). The young man said he didn’t want that, he wanted sarati (vegetable similar to Sukuma wiki) then started beating the mum.”
This left viewers in stitches with the incident earning him the nickname “Chief Wa Misheveve.”
TikTok users on the “Misheveve vs Sarati” challenge, sparking a wave of creative content and even inspiring a song.
Misheveve is pumpkin leaves and a common veggie in Kenya.
