Veteran journalist Alex Chamwada on Friday, December 15, celebrated yet another one of his employees in his graduation.
In a statement, Chamwada celebrated Ken Odhimabo whom he said graduated from Maseno University with a Diploma in Mass Communication.
According to Chamwada, Odhiambo quit teaching to join the journalism profession a while ago.
His journey has since then taken an upwards trajectory as the Chams Media founder noted that he had risen to be the company’s bureau chief in Kisumu.
In his statement, Chamwada congratulated the new graduate noting that he was proud of his achievement.
Alex Chamwada celebrates Odhiambo
For him, it was the joy of finally seeing a mentee achieve a crucial milestone in his life.
“Today Mwalimu Ken Odhiambo, yet another Chams Media mentee was awarded a Diploma in Mass Communication during the 23rd graduation of Maseno University,’ Chamwada stated.
“Ken is our bureau chief in Kisumu. He quit teaching to venture into our world. Well done, Ken. We are proud of you.”
On his part, Odhiambo thanked Chamwada for picking him when he had given up.
“As Maseno University celebrates its 23rd graduation, I am happy to be part of the graduates celebrating this auspicious day. To God be the glory.
First and foremost, may I take this opportunity to thank the man to whom I dedicate this victory, Alex Chamwada. He literally picked me up when I had given up in my dreams. Even given up on prayers.
My love and appreciation also go to Chams Media for offering me an opportunity to learn on the job. This made my class work easier,” said Odhiambo.
From Security Guard to Videographer
Odhimabo’s graduation came one day after Bwabi Isaya, a young man who used to work as a security guard for Chamwada graduated with a certificate in Film Making and Videography at the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC) in Eldoret campus.
Chamwada took to his social media to celebrate the young man and recalled his progress from the days he used to man the gate at Chams Media’s offices in Nairobi to finally getting a certificate.

According to Chamwada, Bwabi had already done a commendable job for the company even before graduating.
Besides mentoring his junior employees in the company, Chamwada’s work in the industry has also been notable leaving a legacy in every station he has worked for.

Founded 10 years ago, Chams Media has grown to be a notable force in the media landscape utilizing a unique niche of telling compelling stories of Kenyans working abroad.

While recounting his ten years-journey at the helm of the company, Chamwada explained that it had been a journey of faith and resilience all the way.
In a statement on the 10th anniversary of Chams Media, the journalist revealed that it was not easy to set the company going at the beginning, but he endured the difficult moments to take the company to its current levels.
“The beginning was tough but as the founder, I remained focused and passionate about our vision,” he said.
“I would say I stepped out of the newsroom at the most unexpected moment with only my mobile phone, laptop and networks.”
So far, Chams Media has supplied content for top media stations in Kenya and offered consultancy services for prominent firms.
