The MOJA Expressway Company on Friday, March 6, evening, extended the temporary free usage of the Nairobi Expressway to 6 am on Saturday, March 7, amid the flood crisis in Nairobi.
According to a notice shared at 11.53 pm on Friday night, the extension of free usage of the Nairobi Expressway was due to the concerns for public safety in the flooding situation.
“In light of the current flooding situation, and with public safety as our highest priority, the Nairobi Expressway will be FREE of charge until 6:00 a.m. on 7 March 2026,” part of the statement read.
Earlier, the MOJA Expressway Company opened the Nairobi Expressway to motorists due to flooding along the A8 Mombasa Road.
All motorists using the Mombasa Road were allowed to pass through the expressway free of charge from 2100 to 2300 hrs, according to the notice.
Due to congestion at the toll stations and exit points, motorists traveling from Mlolongo to the CBD were advised to use the Westlands or Capital Center exits.
Additionally, the company issued a warning about the heavy flooding at Haile Selassie Exit B, located across the Neno Evangelism Church in Nairobi CBD.
The opening of the Nairobi Expressway to all motorists, according to the MOJA Expressway Company, reflected the company’s commitment to supporting the public during the flooding period.
Motorists were urged to drive with caution, follow traffic guidance, and remain alert to changing road conditions at all times.
