Motorists have been warned of abnormally wide loads that will disrupt traffic on different roads across the country as transportation begins from Mombasa to Malaba.
TransEast a logistic company, indicated in a notice dated October 2, 2024, that the transportation of the loads had begun on October 1.
Among the routes set to be affected by the transportation of the cargo include the Mombasa-Nairobi-Nakuru-Kericho-Awasi-Ahero-Kisumu route.
The Mombasa-Nairobi-Nakuru-Eldoret-Malaba and Nairobi-Nakuru-Kericho-Kisii-Migori-Isibania routes are also set to be disrupted.
Details of abnormal wide loads and its traffic disruption
Further, the notice indicated that the transportation would continue for a period of about 90 days, until December 30, 2024.
Consequently, motorists were asked to exercise caution when plying the listed roads.
“This is to notify all road users and the general public of the abnormal load movement on the following routes” the notice read in part.

“Please exercise caution when in the vicinity of this convoy,” the notice read.
Additionally, the logistics company detailed that the loads being transported have lengths of 31 meters and a maximum overall width of 5.5 meters.
Also, the cargo which is comprised of a boat, earth-moving machines, and breakbulk had an overall height of 5.7 meters from the ground.
Similar abnormal wide loads have interrupted traffic on roads
Earlier a similar situation was witnessed on March 27, when Clearing and Forwarding Limited, a logistic company warned motorists of disruptions of different roads across the country as its transportation began from Mombasa to Malaba.
Among the routes that were affected at the time by the transportation of the cargo included Mariakani, Voi, Mtito Andei, Emali, Machakos Junction via Mahi Mahiu Road, Naivasha, Nakuru, Eldoret, Webuye, and Malaba.
The transportation of the cargo of the company was to be in transit for a period of 96 days from March 26 to June 30.
Similarly, on February 26, Sifa Investments Company had an “abnormal” wide load resembling a ship that was in transit from Mombasa on its way to Malaba.

According to a notice published in a local daily in early February, the cargo was supposed to be in transit for a period of 50 days from February 8 to March 31
The consignment was to follow the route from Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) in Mombasa to Kokotoni, Mariakani, Voi, Mtito, Kibwezi all the way to Kitui.
At Kitui, the truck would then head towards Thika and later connect to Nakuru via the Nyeri, Nanyuki, and Nyahururu routes.
From Nakuru, the consignment would then take on the Nakuru-to-Malaba stretch via the towns of Salgaa, Molo, Chepitiret, Eldoret, Soi, Mois Bridge, Kitale, Webuye, and Bungoma.
