Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has addressed reports that he his planning to part ways with President William Ruto by launching a new political outfit.
In a press release dated Sunday, April 6, Mudavadi, through his Press Director, dismissed those claims, stating that his firmly in government.
“Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, has noted with concern reports in some media outlets associating him with a new political party.
For the record and avoidance of doubt, Dr. Mudavadi is firmly in the Government under the Kenya Kwanza Alliance Administration led by H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-In-Chief of the Defence Forces,” read part of the statement.
Mudavadi Denies Ditching Ruto
Mudavadi further defended himself, stating that throughout his political life, he has maintained integrity, honesty, and dignity in his conduct, and has never been two-faced, highlighting this as a defining trait of his political journey.
“Before joining the government, I was the party leader of the Amani National Congress (ANC), which joined President Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and other parties to form the Kenya Kwanza Alliance ahead of the August 2022 general election. ANC and UDA eventually merged in January 2025,” the Prime Cabinet Secretary noted.

Additionally, Mudavadi stated that he believes in the high ideals of unity and cohesion. He emphasized that the decision to merge his ANC party with the President’s UDA party was made voluntarily and had the support of the party members.
Former ANC Members Launch a New Party
Furthermore, Mudavadi reiterated his commitment to serving the people of Kenya diligently and affirmed that he has no intention of joining another political party.
Mudavadi’s response comes after some former members of the ANC expressed dissatisfaction with the merger between the ANC and the UDA party.

According to a media report by the Nation, “these individuals were switching their allegiance to a new party ahead of an upcoming National Delegates Convention (NDC).”
“Some of the former ANC members have distanced themselves from the merger and are rallying behind a new political organization, the Umoja Summit Party (USP), which is set to hold its NDC in the coming days,” reads the report.
