Norda Industries Limited, which manufactures a range of popular snacks, including Ringoz, has explained why its corn rings turn into a sticky paste when crushed and mixed with water, after a viral social media video claimed the snack contains glue.
In a statement on September 25, the company denied the claims and clarified that it does not add any glue or adhesive to Ringoz during manufacturing.
“Norda Industries Limited is aware of a social media video in which Ringoz corn rings are mixed with water and rubbed between the hands, producing a sticky paste. The video suggests that this demonstrates that Ringoz contains glue. This is incorrect. No glue or adhesive is added to Ringoz,” part of the statement read.
Why Ringoz Turns Into Sticky Paste When Mixed With Water
According to Norda, Ringoz is made primarily from maize, which is cooked and formed into rings during manufacturing.
The company explained that when the rings are crushed and mixed with water, the cooked maize absorbs the water and forms a paste, resulting in the sticky texture seen in the viral video.
Norda said the reaction does not mean glue or adhesive has been added to the snack, and that Ringoz is safe to consume.
“Ringoz is made primarily from maize. During manufacture, the maize is cooked and formed into rings. When the rings are crushed and mixed with water, the cooked maize can absorb water and form a paste. The sticky texture shown in the video is consistent with this behaviour.
We assure you that our snacks are safe for consumption. We understand why a claim about a food enjoyed by children would concern parents and other consumers. We take concerns about our products seriously,” the company stated.

The manufacturer urged consumers with concerns about a specific Ringoz pack to contact the company using the details provided on the packaging.
Consumers have also been asked to provide the product name, batch number and a photograph of the pack to help Norda investigate individual complaints.
Norda also said Ringoz is manufactured under a Kenya Bureau of Standards Standardization Mark permit, No. 38470.

Viral Video Shows Ringoz Contains Glue
The explanation comes after a viral video in which a content creator claimed that Ringoz contains chemical adhesives or glue and warned viewers that the snack was unsafe.
In the video, the creator crushed Ringoz into a powder, mixed it with water and rubbed the resulting gelatinous paste between their hands, arguing that the sticky texture showed the presence of synthetic glue.
The creator further alleged that the substance could not be washed out of a child’s stomach after consumption and linked it to long-term digestive problems and unexplained illnesses.
The claims were presented as a health warning and spread widely on social media, prompting Norda Industries Limited to respond.
Additionally, the content creator cautioned families that regular consumption of the snack could expose children to serious health complications and costly medical treatment, alleging that chemical adhesives in the product could accumulate and obstruct the digestive system.
