The race for the Westlands parliamentary seat is intensifying as new contenders continue to emerge ahead of the 2027 General Election. Sources now confirm that Moses Budamba Mudavadi, the son of Kenya’s Prime Cabinet secretary Musalia Mudavadi, is making significant progress in the contest for one of Nairobi County’s most competitive constituencies.
The young Mudavadi is known for being humble, social, respectful, determined, and driven, and aims to bring focus and precision to Westlands politics.
Westlands constituency is one of the 17 constituencies in Nairobi County, situated within Westlands Sub-County, formerly Westlands District.
It hosts some of the high-income suburbs such as Runda, Lake-View, Muthaiga, Kitisuru, and Highridge. Middle and low-income areas include the famous Kangemi, Githogoro, Deep-Sea, Mji Wa Huruma, Kaptagat, Kibagare, Maasai, and Suswa.
Additionally, it has four 5 wards, namely Kitisuru, Parklands/Highridge, Karura, Kangemi, and Mountain View.
Moses Budamba Mudavadi Joins Westlands Parliamentary Seat
If cleared, Moses Budamba Mudavadi intends to run on a UDA ticket and aims to bring youthful energy, development-focused policies, and grassroots service to the constituency.
“This is my personal decision, and I have not been influenced or persuaded by anyone. I want to see the people of Westlands benefit from real grassroots services. My focus is on the welfare of the people and development for Westlands,” Moses Budamba Mudavadi a local media outlet.

Despite being the son of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Budamba Mudavadi highlighted that his campaign is not dependent on his father’s political influence.
“I am the son of the Prime Cabinet Secretary; that is a fact. But that does not mean I am not myself, Moses. I might borrow from his experience, but I am going for the seat as a UDA aspirant in my own name,” said Moses Budamba Mudavadi.
Moses also aims to establish his own political identity independent of his father’s influence.
He noted that agenda and performance, rather than family name, tribe, or religion, should drive voters’ decisions.
He will compete against several contenders, including former LSK President Nelson Havi (DCP), Mike Gumo, son of former MP Fred Gumo, Alex Matere, and Alvin Olando (Palapala, ODM).
However, the current MP, Tim Wanyonyi, is stepping aside after three terms.
