The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives from the Homicide Investigations Bureau and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) have arrested three additional suspects in the ongoing investigation into the murder of Richard Otieno, also known as Molo President.
In a statement on Monday, February 24, the DCI revealed that the suspects, Peter Oketch and Joseph Kihara Kariuki, fled to Majahida in Bariadi District, Tanzania, in an attempt to evade capture. However, they returned to Kenya on Friday, February 21, 2025, after Tanzanian authorities closed in on them.

“A crack team of detectives from the Homicide Investigations Bureau and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) has apprehended three prime suspects linked to the brutal murder of Richard Otieno Haga, alias Molo President, which occurred on January 18, 2025, in Elburgon,” the statement read.
The two suspects, along with their accomplice, Evans Aseka Okututi, have been apprehended and are scheduled to be arraigned before the Nakuru Chief Magistrate’s Court today for custodial orders.

According to the DCI, suspects Peter Oketch, alias DJ IO, and Joseph Kihara Kariuki, alias Jose, and Evans Aseka Okutu were forensically linked to the crime scene along with other suspects who are still at large.
Investigations revealed that they were transported from Molo to Elburgon to carry out the heinous act.

Furthermore, the DCI stated that as the investigation continues, detectives are intensifying efforts to apprehend more suspects.
The recent apprehension of these three suspects follows the earlier arrest of five individuals in connection with the gruesome murder of Richard Haga Otieno.

Some of these five suspects were believed to have been directly involved in the brutal killing, while others were bodaboda operators who identified as the individuals who transported the hitmen to and from the crime scene.
Molo President Murder
Richard Otieno, a Molo-based activist, was hacked to death on January 18, 2025.
He was attacked near Elburgon Police Post after watching a football match and was heading home when he succumbed to severe head injuries caused by a sharp object, likely a machete or an axe.

The post-mortem examination revealed multiple deep injuries to his head, indicating extreme violence.
The DCI is still actively investigating the case and has identified several individuals of interest.
