The Nairobi Hospital has announced tendering opportunities and invited bidders for the listed works.
In a July 12, 2024, notice, the premier facility which is owned by the Kenya Hospital Association (KHA), invited interested bidders to apply for three tenders distributed within different sectors.
“The Nairobi Hospital invites sealed tenders from eligible bidders for the works listed below,” read part of the notice.
According to the hospital, the tenders include Proposed Repurposing of East Wing for The Nairobi Hospital (TNH/ITB/020/24/Engineering), and Provision of Consultancy Services for Job Evaluation (TNH/RFP/010/002/23/HR).
Provision of Outsourced Temporary Employees Services (TNH/RFP/005/002/23/HR) is the other tender open for application.
First, interested bidders will be required to pay non-refundable fee of Ksh3,000, to be paid at the Hospital cashiers’ between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM of any day from Monday to Friday, before the deadline day.

Further, the Hospital stated that the bidding amount is payable via Lipa na Mpesa>Paybill Number: 998151 then A/C No: Company Name, adding that the original receipt must be attached to the tender document.

All bid documents according to Nairobi Hospital must be submitted not later than Thursday, 25th July 2024 at 12:00 PM, clearly marked with the bid title, with the medical facility adding that late bids will not be accepted.

According to the hospital, the facility is not obligated to offer the tender to the lowest or any other bidder or give any reasons thereof.

The announcement comes amid reported boardroom wars which have seen members of the Kenya Hospital Association KHA call for an extraordinary general meeting.
In a petition addressed to the KHA board, the members of the requisition group who cited a loss of confidence the board directors’ leadership listed 13 directors, including Chairman Dr. Chris Bichage and Vice Chairman Philemon Mwaisaka.
Cracks within the Board
The owners alleged that the Nairobi Hospital board members have breached their legal and fiduciary duties towards the company and its interests.
“The cited failures of the board include but are not limited to: collectively passing resolutions to accept and issue tenders contrary to the hospital’s procurement manual, to be funded through overseas borrowings amounting to astronomical sums of approximately Sh2 billion, using the company’s assets as collateral without informing or obtaining approval from the members, without considering alternative financing, thereby jeopardizing the company’s assets and indeed the existence of the company if the company is unable to repay the proposed astronomical loans,” reads the petition drafted by the KHA requisition committee.
Members have criticized both the board’s chairman Dr. Bichage and his vice for failures in leadership and management of the company.
Some of the cited failures includes involvement in conducting and chairing meetings of the Board of Directors to make resolutions that went against the company’s Articles of Association, human resources manual and procurement manual.
