Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company Limited on Thursday, August 31 announced water supply interruption in parts of Nairobi.
In a statement, the Company announced that there will be no water supply for six hours in four estates.
“Regretfully, we shall shut the water supply outlet from Kabete reservoir for six hours today 31 August 2023 from 10.00am to facilitate repair of the leak,” the statement read.
The areas to be affected are; along Waiyaki Way, Chiromo Road, Westland, Parklands, MP Shah Hospital, Riverside, Lavington, Kilimani area, Amboseli area, areas along Gitanga road and Nairobi Hospital.
Additionally, Kenyatta hospital, Mbagathi hospital, Forces Memorial hospital, areas along Ngong Road, whole of Kibera and Lang’ata Estates will also be affected.
The company attributed the shutdown of the water supply in areas to a leak in Kabete Water Treatment that is the main source of water for the affected areas.
“We have a major leak at Kabete Water Treatment Works Reservoir on the Manifold outlet pipeline that requires urgent repair works. This common manifold outlet pipeline divides into various water distribution pipelines heading to Westlands, Lavington, Kilimani, Riverside, Kibera and Lang’ata,” Nairobi Water Company explained.

Furthermore, the company has assured Nairobi residents that they are doing everything possible to restore the water supply.
“Whilst every effort will be made to restore the supply of water as soon as possible, we request all customers in the affected areas to use water sparingly during the period of interruption,” Nairobi Water company said.
The company seeks endurance as they fix the problem and regrets any inconvenience caused.

Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) was incorporated in December 2003 under the Companies Act cap 486.
It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Nairobi City County with the main responsibility of providing and managing water and sewerage services in Nairobi, while the asset holding body, Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA) is charged with the responsibility of developing key water and sewerage infrastructure.
The Company is mandated to provide clean water and sewerage services to the residents of Nairobi City County, in a financially sustainable manner and within Government regulations.
The City has an estimated population of 4.39 million by 2019 which is projected to grow to 5.9 million by 2022 according to Nairobi County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) 2018-2022.
Nonetheless, water remains a perennial problem in Nairobi, with millions of residents buying water every day.
