Kenya is gearing up to host the upcoming International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP) conference from September 24 to 27 2024.
Principal secretary in The Ministry of Information Communication and Digital Economy, John Tanui, shared the news while in Malaga, Spain for the IASP global board meeting.
Kenya will be hosting over 7,000 delegates for the 41st edition of IASP conference in the Konza Technopolis.
“The government’s digital transformation agenda has attracted global recognition, and it will get a huge boost when Konza Technopolis, which has been tasked by the government to drive its digital transformation agenda, hosts over 7000 global leaders and investors from Science Parks and Innovation Districts in Nairobi in September this year,” stated John Tanui.
The PS was speaking in Malaga, Spain at the end of a two-day global board meeting of the IASP where he represented Africa as the IASP African Division President to discuss the association’s future strategy and to outline the path for IASP to follow in the year to come.

In a statement shared on February,16,2024, Science parks and Areas of Innovation asked digital minds across Kenya and Africa are being urged to actively participate and share their perspectives on a global platform.
Highlighting the significance of the event, International President Lena Miranda, chairperson of the IASP Board, emphasized the diverse representation within the organization.
“The IASP is made up of members from various countries including Australia, China, Brazil, Denmark, Ecuador, France, Italy, Japan, Kenya, The Netherlands, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Arab Emirates, and the USA,” shared Lena Miranda.
Significance of IASP Conference
With such a diverse membership base, the IASP conference in Nairobi promises to be a melting pot of ideas, innovation, and collaboration.

The Principal Secretary further shared that the gathering would provide a unique platform for stakeholders from Kenya, Africa, and across the globe.
“We will be hosting this important meeting at a significant time when the African Continent is experiencing rapid urbanization due to digital transformation and an increased acceleration action aligned to SDG goals in this decade of action,” added John Tanui.
“The experiences of Global Science Parks offer opportunities for Africa to advance swiftly into the 4th industrial era with science, technology and innovation taking the Center stage.”

Encouraging active participation, IASP elected president, Tanui has urged science parks and Areas of Innovation from Kenya and Africa to seize the opportunity to contribute their perspectives to the global conversation.
