Kenya Power has announced an eight-hour power outage scheduled to affect Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and its surrounding areas.
In a statement dated Sunday, February 23, 2025, the company revealed that the electricity supply within JKIA would be interrupted from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

“Good evening. Please receive planned power maintenance for tomorrow 23rd February 2025,” read the statement.
The announcement highlighted that Barabara Plaza, located inside JKIA, would be among the affected areas.

Key facilities expected to experience the blackout include the KENHA Barabara Plaza, the Horticultural Crops Directorate (HCD), and the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), along with adjacent customers.
Beyond the main airport area, several critical facilities and businesses around JKIA will also be impacted.

These include the Mitchell Cotts Group, Swissport Kenya, Airfio, Crowne Plaza, Vegro, DB Schenker, Air Connection, Kuehne + Nagel, Four Points Hotel, the Airport Trade Centre, and Global Freights Logistics. Other affected entities include the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), Signon Aviation, Acceler, the Freight Complex, and nearby customers.

The power outage will not be limited to JKIA alone. KPLC has also announced scheduled blackouts in parts of Nairobi, particularly along Enterprise Road.
Affected institutions and businesses in this area include Equity Bank, Unifilters Tim Sales, Sadolin Paints, Subaru Aftermarkets, MF Designs & Woodcrafts, Maxy’s Lounge, Blackwood Hodge, Kaycer Industries, Shah Timber, and Kens Metal. Additionally, the outage will extend to Homabay Road, Busia Road, Shell Enterprise Road, Isiolo Road, Jirore Road, and Gilgil Road, including all adjacent customers.
Kenya Power also announced that other regions across the country are also set to experience power interruptions.
Other Regions to Also Experience Planned Interruptions Besides JKIA
In Kajiado County, areas such as Namanga, Bissil, and Kumpa will be affected between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Specific locations include Dubai, Orkungo, Bisil, Ngatataek, Maili Tisa, Kumpa, Meto, Maparasaha, Kureket, Emotoroki, Lorgusua, Olgulului, Imarba, and Partimaro, along with surrounding communities.
In the Western region, Kisumu County will also face disruptions. The Lutheran area, including Power of Jesus Church, Rubis Nairobi Road, and Mega City, will experience power cuts from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The same will apply to Polyview Estate and Prinias Hotel, affecting Kisumu Day Secondary School, Makasembo, Kalolenmi Estate and slums, Harambee Quarry, and nearby areas. Manyatta Market and its surroundings, including Kona Legio, Kona Mbaya, Magadi, and Mbeme, will also be affected.

The Coast region has also been listed to experience the planned outage. Parts of Kilifi Town, including Kilifi Hospital and Bofa, will have their power supply interrupted from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
In the North Rift region, areas in Uasin Gishu County such as Kambi Kuku, Kamoret, the Jua Kali Market, and the Cemtec (Simba Cement) Factory will experience similar interruptions during the same timeframe.
