The Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) has provided an update on the resumption of commuter train services on select routes following a temporary suspension.
In a statement on Friday, May 17, 2024, KRC announced the resumption of service on the Nairobi-Ruiru Commuter train.

“We are pleased to inform the public that the Nairobi Ruiru Commuter train service will resume on Monday, May 20, 2024,” reads the statement.
According to KRC, the train will depart Ruiru Station at 6:00 AM and arrive at Nairobi Central Station at 7:30AM in line with the normal schedule.

However, Kenya Railways announced that the Kahawa train that departs at 9:00 AM from Kahawa West, remains suspended until further notice.

The corporation thanked members of public for their patience and understanding noting that it is doing everything possible to restore normalcy across the entire Commuter Service which was disrupted by the ongoing heavy rains.

Kenya Railways had been forced to temporarily suspend commuter train services in select routes due to heavy rains which wreaked havoc including destruction of railway tracks in various parts of the country.
The corporation in a statement on April 24 announced the suspension of commuter train services citing safety concerns while saying that the rains pounding different parts of the city had affected its railway lines.
Following the suspension, the corporation had on May 6 provided an update announcing the resumption of commuter train services on four routes that had been affected by the suspension.
KRC announced the resumption of service starting from Tuesday, 7th of May 2024, on the Embakasi Village, Lukenya, SGR Link, and Syokimau, routes.
The Limuru and Ruiru routes remained suspended at the time due to ongoing repair works.

Weatherman Update
This resumption came at a time the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has announced that rains are set to persist in several parts of the country including Nairobi.
KMD in a statement on Thursday, May 16, 2024, revealed that some regions would receive heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms while others were set to receive moderate rainfall.
Kenya Met in its five-day weather forecast said that among regions expected to experience heavy rainfall and potential thunderstorms included the Highlands West regions of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley.
