King Charles III and Queen Camilla of the United Kingdom have penned a message of comfort to President William Ruto amid the ongoing floods that have ravaged the country.
In a statement on Tuesday, May 7, the King conveyed a message of sympathy and affection to the people of Kenya who have been affected by the floods.
“Mr. President, it was with great concern that my wife and I learnt recently of the terrible flooding that has ravaged Kenya and the region, and which continues to impact so many of your people,” read part of the statement.
“We can only begin to imagine the anguish of those who have lost loved ones and seen their livelihoods devastated.”
King Charles III Sends Message to Ruto
The King and Queen of the United Kingdom (UK) further stated that their thoughts are also with the emergency workers and others who are working for long hours to support victims of the ravaging floods.

“The increased unpredictability and violence of weather systems reminds us of how utterly vital it is that the world act together and with all dispatch to mitigate and adapt to climate change,” he added.
King Charles III also emphasized the importance of taking the issue of climate change seriously as its effects generally affects everyone.
He went on to remind Ruto of the discussions they had about climate change during his visit to Kenya in October and the need for concerted efforts to address its effects.
“As we discussed during our visit to Kenya last year, the challenge of climate change and biodiversity loss calls to all of us to address at stake is our very quality of life and survival as a world,” he said.

Ongoing Floods in the Country
The floods have destroyed homes, roads, bridges and other infrastructure across the Country with normal activities, businesses and schooling disrupted.
According to the government Spokesperson, the ongoing floods had resulted in the loss of 228 Kenyans,164 injured while 72 persons were reported missing as of May 5.
Furthermore, approximately 212,630 people from 42,526 households have been displaced and the total number of persons affected across the country stands at 223,198.
According to the government, approximately 227,238 people have been impacted by the heavy rains. 1,967 schools have been affected by the floods.
