Moi University has clarified the reporting date for first-year students amid an ongoing lecturer strike at the institution.
In a statement dated Thursday, August 21, 2025, the University announced that the reporting of first-year students for the 2025/2026 academic year will proceed as scheduled on that day at the Main Campus and other respective campuses.
“Moi University wishes to reassure all stakeholders that reporting by first-year students for the 2025/2026 academic year will proceed as scheduled on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at the Main Campus and other respective campuses,” the notice read.
Moi University Assures First Year Students that Institution’s Operations Won’t be Disrupted
Additionally, Moi University has assured first-year students and stakeholders that the ongoing lecturers’ strike will not disrupt the institution’s operations.
The University Council and Management stressed their commitment to resolving all outstanding issues through constructive dialogue with stakeholders.
“Measures have been put in place to ensure that the University remains fully operational and that the registration and orientation process runs smoothly,” the University stated.

The University further urged parents and guardians to facilitate their children’s reporting as planned.
“Moi University looks forward to warmly welcoming the new cohort of students into the University family,” added the University.
The institution’s statement comes a day after lecturers initiated their strike on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. Despite the management’s assurance of engagement with the University Academic Staff Union (UASU) leadership, the lecturers went on strike.
UASU Secretary at the institution, Busola Wegasa, declared on August 20 that the strike would proceed, citing the administration’s failure to honor last year’s return-to-work formula among other grievances.
Lecturers Kick off Strike
The lecturers further listed their demands before resuming work:
▪ Payment of June and July 2025 salaries as per the 2021–2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement rates.
▪ Implementation of the Return-To-Work Formula signed on November 30, 2024, between UASU and the University Council.
▪ Full compliance with clauses on staff review, promotion, and retirement age in the 2021–2025 National Collective Bargaining Agreement.
▪ Upholding workers’ fundamental rights and freedoms under Article 41 and Chapter 4 of the Constitution.

The lecturers issued a seven-day strike notice to the university, dated August 12, 2025. On August 14, 2025, the institution acknowledged receipt of the strike notice issued by UASU.
The university also recognized the concerns raised by UASU and affirmed that the University Council and Management are actively engaging with the Union leadership, the Ministry of Education, and other relevant institutions to address the issues through constructive dialogue.
