The Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy (MKWC) has been recognized in Tripadvisor’s 2025 Travelers’ Choice Awards.
In a statement issued on August 1, MKWC described the recognition as a prestigious honour reserved for the top 10% of listings worldwide on Tripadvisor.
Robert Aruho, Head of Conservancy at MKWC, acknowledged the recognition as a reflection of the ongoing efforts to protect natural landscapes for both current and future generations.
He emphasized the importance of feedback from visitors and reviewers, and said that being included in the Travelers’ Choice list shows that the conservancy’s work is being positively received.
“We thank our visitors and reviewers for their positive reviews of MKWC and are truly honored to be included among travelers’ favorites this year. Travelers’ Choice is one of the most recognized and coveted awards in the travel space, so it is very valuable to us,” he said.

The organization’s focus has been on the critically endangered Mountain Bongo, whose population in the wild has declined to fewer than 100 individuals.
Additionally, the Conservancy has reintroduced these animals into their natural habitat while working to restore the forest ecosystem they depend on.
Over the past 20 years, the Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy has successfully bred four generations of Mountain Bongos.
The breeding program began after individuals were repatriated from zoos in North America.
In 2022, the Kenya Wildlife Service, Kenya Forest Service, and Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy established the Mawingu Sanctuary—the world’s first sanctuary dedicated to the Mountain Bongo.
“In its first year, ten Mountain Bongos were translocated to the sanctuary, and since then, four births have been recorded, providing full proof of concept that these antelope species have settled well into their new wild home.’

Tripadvisor Honours Kenya
Kristen Dalton, President of Tripadvisor, said that the award places MKWC among the top-rated attractions worldwide, based on visitor reviews and ratings collected over the past year.
“Ranking among the top percentage of businesses globally means you have made such a memorable impact on your visitors that many of them took time to go online and leave a glowing review about their experience. We hope this recognition continues to drive business to you in 2025 and beyond,” she added.
