Sports journalist Shaffie Zele has addressed rumors about his departure from Radio Maisha, a station owned by the Standard Group.
In a statement dated Tuesday, August 5, 2025, Shaffie Zele urged his fans to stop speculating about the reasons behind his exit. Some fans had attributed his departure to supposed internal conflicts with colleagues.
“I’m writing this with one humble request, from the bottom of my heart — please stop the speculation, the finger-pointing, and cursing people over what happened,” said the journalist.

Additionally, he indirectly acknowledged that the rumors might be true and further urged his fans to forget about what happened.
“Whoever did whatever, did it for the reasons best known for them. Life is about forgiving, letting go, and trusting God’s plan,” said the sports journalist.
Zele also explained that part of his decision to leave the station was to pursue his business interests, but he has now changed his mind after his fans’ advice to return to radio.
“At first, I had decided to leave the media and focus fully on my businesses. But after reading your emotional messages and goodwill comments, I’ve changed my mind. I’m now ready for a new challenge, and Insha’Allah, I’ll be back on Air soon doing what I do best,” said Zele.

Zele further emphasized that his fans should stop the blame game and instead help rebuild the positive atmosphere he had established with them.

Zele’s response comes days after he issued a statement announcing his departure from Standard Media. On Sunday, August 3, 2025, Zele released a statement confirming he was leaving the Standard Group-owned radio station.
“After three incredible years filled with beautiful memories, passionate sports conversations, and humorous presentations, it’s time for me to say goodbye to Radio Maisha.
It has been a truly amazing experience, a journey where I got to live my dream at Kenya’s number one radio station,” Zele said.

He thanked the station for giving him the chance to work there. He also stated that he will one day explain the reasons behind his departure.
Shaffie Zele gained national fame in July 2021 when President Uhuru Kenyatta made an impromptu visit to Ruben FM during a live Euro 2020 match broadcast.
Zele, then an intern, interviewed the president, showcasing his football commentary skills. This moment was widely shared online and turned him into an internet sensation overnight, earning recognition for his broadcasting skills and boosting his public profile.
Zele later joined Radio Maisha.
