Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta met with the President of Uganda Yoweri Museveni on Wednesday 7, 2024 to discuss regional peace and security matters.
In a statement on X, the former president acknowledged paying a courtesy call to Yoweri Museveni sharing photos of them during the meeting.
The primary agenda of the meeting reportedly centered around the escalating tensions in the East Africa region, which is a matter of growing concern.
Kenyatta, who now serves as the Peace Facilitator for East African Countries engaged President Museveni on discussions regarding the situation.
“The Facilitator of the EAC-led Nairobi Peace Process, H.E President (Rtd) Uhuru Kenyatta today paid a courtesy call to H.E, President of the Republic of Uganda to discuss matters on regional peace and security,” read a statement from the office of the 4th President of Kenya.
Also, this meeting followed Kenyatta’s use of Ugandan airline services to attend the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tshisekedi Tshilombo.
It was after his trip to DRC that he headed to Uganda.
However, their closed-door meeting is the second within just two weeks as the former head of state met President Museveni in Kampala on Thursday, January 25.

Part of their engagement was on the state of the process toward peace in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo where the M23 rebels have been facing off with the government troops leading to a humanitarian crisis.

President Yoweri Museveni also shared details of his meeting with Uhuru Kenyatta on his social media account.
“This afternoon at State House Entebbe, I met with the Facilitator of the EAC-led Nairobi Peace Process, H.E. President (Rtd) Uhuru Kenyatta, to discuss the regional mandate alongside recent developments in Eastern DRC.” shared Museveni.

The East Africa Community (EAC) led Nairobi Process, initiated in April 2022, aims to resolve the conflict in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Founded on principles of inclusivity, dialogue, ownership, regional leadership, and international support, this peace initiative appointed Uhuru Kenyatta as its Facilitator.
His role involves coordinating and leading a comprehensive peace process, which encompasses political dialogue and military interventions to ensure the implementation of the Nairobi Process.
The former president is also tasked to Engage with all key regional and international partners to ensure sustained political, diplomatic and financial support for the success of the Nairobi Process.
This process seeks to engage all stakeholders, including the DRC government, armed groups, civil society organizations, and the international community in finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict through dialogue and negotiation, with a focus on regional leadership from the East African Community (EAC).
