Ruto Issues Directive to NPS
At the same time, Ruto directed the National Police Service (NPS) to fully cooperate with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and ensure a thorough investigation is conducted.
He reminded police officers of their responsibility to guarantee the safety and well-being of individuals in custody.
“I therefore call on the National Police Service to fully cooperate with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority and to take every necessary measure to facilitate a swift, transparent, and credible investigation into the death of Ojwang,” ordered Ruto.
According to the heads of state, the police officers may have been negligent and showed outright criminality, which may have contributed to the untimely death of Ojwang.
“It must be borne in mind by every member of the National Police Service that whenever they take a person into custody,
“They assume a tremendous responsibility for that individual’s safety, security, and well-being, and must make every effort to discharge this duty conscientiously and without fail,” he added.
Also, Ruto asked the public to remain patient as investigations continue, warning against premature judgments that could interfere with the process.
“I fully expect that the truth about what happened to Ojwang will be established in due course, and that justice will be served,” he said.
